Our global client has an immediate vacancy for an experienced Shift Team Leader to work from their state of the art manufacturing & assembly plant in Manchester.

This is a permanent position.

Job Description
As a “hands-on” Shift Team Leader you will report directly to the Shift Manager – Industrial Equipment you will lead a team of Skilled Fitters and Painters and be responsible for the attainment to plan of that section to achieve site OTIF target without compromising quality or safety.

Through line monitoring using daily, weekly and monthly targets you will use visual management to clearly identify issues that impact Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery performance.

You will follow a systematic daily routine of reviewing the plan, allocating resource, reviewing output and then making corrective action to attain the plan.

As section leader you will be empowered to call upon the site resources you require to adhere to this plan.

You will be the driving force creating a sense of urgency to ensure that the targets for OTIF, attainment to plan (ATP) and production efficiency, are met and continuously improved on an ongoing basis through promotion of cross-functional learning and the application of lean principles.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Ensure all company policies surrounding health and safety, quality and workplace organisation are met.

Responsible for the attainment to plan of that section to achieve site OTIF target.

Prepare for and lead daily team meetings to highlight priorities/tasks and resolve any issues within area of responsibility including Delivery, EHS, Quality or Staff related topics.

Line monitoring using daily, weekly and monthly targets.

Control of visual management boards recording daily attainment to plan.

Maintenance of and adherence to 5S / housekeeping standards.

Prepare and conduct team briefings / complete detailed shift handover logs.

To ensure operational Output, OTIF, Quality and cost targets are met;

Conduct containment and preventative actions regarding NCRs.

To assist in the implementation of a lean manufacturing.

Set and measure daily/weekly output targets, KPIs for the team.

Communicate process improvements /suggestions to Manufacturing Engineering team.

Develop and enable team members to meet company goals and customer requirements, assess skills/capacity and implement cross training or recruitment programmes.

Work closely with supporting functions to ensure team is able to meet operational targets and continuous improvements.

Lead/train/mentor team in Lean manufacturing techniques.

Undertake training that is identified as a requirement of the role as identified by the role Manager.

Make recommendations and changes to SOP processes, procedures and guidelines with formal approval.

To manage team of Skilled Fitters in relation to absence management, employee engagement, conducting first stage disciplinary meetings, participate in the recruitment of new staff.

To be considered for this role you will have:
Served a recognised apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline.
Have worked within manufacturing environments.
Working knowledge of machining, assembly, fabrication & paint applications.
Previous supervisory experience (charge hand, lead hand, supervisor etc.).
Be able to work shifts (6-2 / 2-10). Shift allowance @ 14% payable.
